Keana Cavero (she/her)

Vice-President Programming

As Vice-President Programming, Keana organizes and facilitates the organization's events, programming, sponsorships and promotional activities. Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Keana is in her fourth year in the Law program at Carleton, concentrating in Transnational Law and Human Rights. Her lifelong passion for community engagement has led her to many meaningful opportunities of involvement in the greater Ottawa community. From her work in the Parliament Hill Page Program, to working on policy and programs within the Carleton University Student Union (CUSA) and their Sexual Assault Support Center, to facilitating cultural events with the Humanitarian Organization of Latin American Students (HOLAS), representing Carleton as a member of the Varsity Rowing Team, and much more, she is eager for any opportunity to learn new skills and connect with members of the community.

Keana has had a unique residence experience, as she lived first-year in the midst of a pandemic & missing out on the frosh experience, then working as a Residence Fellow, to getting the 'traditional' upper-year experience this past year. Thanks to this, she knows first-hand just how impactful a positive residence experience can be, for first years, upper years and RLS alike. She will make sure resident students have boundless opportunities to make meaningful connections and memories to last a lifetime. As a lifelong fan of political ad policy herself, she knows the value of having leaders you can trust, and is working hard to make RRRA reliable, transparent, and ultimately, for the students they serve.

Keana's Goals & Campaigns for RRRA in 2023/2024

Abstentions Online

Keana hopes to revamp the social media presence, especially for the Abstentions store. Many students are missing out on the great opportunities that are being offered by them, something that Keana hopes to change.

Jobs

Keana looks to get as many students involved with RRRA as possible, even if it involves working with external programs. She hopes to keep new positions constant, such as positions at abstentions, service desks, tutoring program & many more!

Gym Access

On top of working on getting new equipment, Keana hopes to make the gym a more fun space, hosting sporting event get-togethers, days where students can try new physical activities, & advocating for inclusive gym hours (such as women’s only hours, 2SLGBTQ+ friendly hours amongst others).

Advocacy

Keana hopes to bring awareness to different social issues, as advocacy starts at home. She hopes to offer services to bring together different social groups in safe spaces, as well as ensuring student’s accessibility needs are being met & recognized by not only RRRA, but Carleton overall.

Events

Keana hopes to create events that will engage students in a positive way, such as trivia nights, snacks & socials and game nights amongst others! She also hopes to highlight events happening around        Ottawa as well.

Your New Home

Keana hopes to make residence feel like a true home away from home. She aims to make sure you not only enjoy your time here, but make sure you're ready when you have to move on! This includes cooking classes, giveaways for household appliances, assistance finding good off-campus housing, financial literacy workshops, and more!
